About the Event
Glenda Emory VanLandingham, 58, of Arlington, Va., passed away after a lengthy illness on May 18th, 2023. She was born in Dothan, Ala. on Halloween (10-31-64) and was the daughter of the late James Patrick Rice and the late Sandra VanLandingham Binder.
Glenda graduated from Hickory High School.
In 1986, Glenda graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor's Degree in Arts and Sciences. She was a member of the Sweet Carolines and developed a close sisterhood with fellow UNC alumni; she cherished those friendships and Carolina sports all her life.
For 35 years, she was a flight attendant with American Airlines and received numerous commendations for her professionalism and dedication to passenger safety and comfort.
Glenda had an affinity for the fashion and beauty industry. She was an accomplished stylist and make-up artist, freelancing with Bobbi Brown Cosmetics and becoming an accredited mentor for Limelight by Alcone. She developed a vibrant business with demand for her expertise at special events and weddings. Surviving Glenda are her brother, Eric Rice (Nicole Woods) of Hickory; niece Julianne Robertson; and, nephew Eric Dalton Rice. She was preceded in death by nephew Jay "Jake" Robertson II and by her aunt, Kathy Rice Prouix of Stratford, N.H. Also surviving are stepmother, Pat Rice and family; uncles, Charles B. Rice (Catherine) of Atlanta, Ga. and William Eric (Rick) Binder (Carolyn) of Monticello, Fla.; numerous cousins; and, godsons Alexander and Anderson Brady of Pinehurst, N.C.
Glenda will be remembered for her mesmerizing smile, devotion to her friends, professional accomplishments, and resolve to transcend breast cancer by living her "best life."
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, June 2, 2023, at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension with the Rev. Karla Woggon officiating. A reception will follow the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Wings Foundation (www.wingsfoundation.com) which provides financial assistance to flight attendants in times of illness, disability, injury, or catastrophic events.
